Chateau Puklus
János Puklus, founded the wine cellars in 1974. At the beginning, the great-grandfather's wine growing area was the heart of the property and then they acquired and planted more new areas with grape. Their wine growing areas are found at the southernmost part at the foot of the Tokaji hill in Hungary, on the excellent slopes of the village Bodrogkeresztúr, Tarcal and Bodrogkisfalud. Nowadays a plantation of 15 acres is cultivated. At present the Furmint and Muscatine grapes are the main varieties but there is also Zeta, fat grape "gohér" (early ripening variety). It is here that the Puklus family treats the youthful, fresh wines as soon as possible so that the customers would be able to taste them in almost fresh and fruit-rich conditions. Traditional ripening of the wines takes place in four cellars of more than 300 years old, which are equipped with little wood "gonci" barrels. Here the wine specialties such as Tokaji Aszu, "Szamorodni" and " Fordítás" (a variety of Tokaj) will be seasoned. János Puklus was elected as the "Wine Grower of the Year" at the foot of the Tokaji hill in the year 1999.
